"Sibiu" / SEPT 2022 / Chipboard, posterboard

My birdhouse is a representational model of the “eyes of Sibiu” in Romania. These houses were inspired by baroque architecture and the “eyes” serve as ventilation for the homes. There are several points of emphasis in my model. Viewed from the front the diagonal lines of the two roofs lead the eye upward. Viewed from the side the symmetry of the eyes and slanted sides draws the eye from one eye to another. My model roughly follows a ⅔ ratio for most measurements. This is to cement the mathematical beauty of my model. The only part that does not follow this ratio is the eyes. This is done on purpose, as the eyes should create unease in the viewer. The most present shape is a half ellipse. This is present in the shingles on the roof and in the eyes themselves. This can be contrasted with the second present shape: a triangle. These two shapes work together to create balance but also contrast. The contrast serves my goal to make the eyes look unsettling.
